Biodiversity

We grow our grapes in complete harmony with nature, in a biological microsystem where animals, plants, sun, soil and air interact to create the perfect conditions for the vines.

In addition to our vineyards, we have a wide variety of crops in the area, such as olive trees, almond trees, walnut trees and cereals, all of which are grown organically.

The extra virgin olive oil, obtained from our ARBEQUINA variety olive harvests, is made for our own use and for limited local sale, it is really a small gift from the land to the family.

LOS TIMONARES ESTATE

This is the first estate owned outright by the Piqueras family and covers an area of 210 hectares to the southeast of Almansa, 750 metres above sea level.

The land on the estate dedicated to vine cultivation is composed of nutrient-poor, stony and calcareous soils, essential for obtaining our youngest, freshest and most expressive line of products.
Wines produced: young whites (Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc), single varietal reds (Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Monastrell).

Los Timonares is also an organic sheep farm where the sheep graze freely. The sheep help to keep the plants naturally low and their organic manure provides nutrients for the soil.

The ‘aljibe’

At the heart of Los Timonares estate stands a limestone cistern or ‘aljibe’, a precious evocation of the Moorish artisanry typical of the area, used to collect rainwater and irrigate in dry seasons. This cistern was built at the end of the 19th century to supply water to the nearby farms; the exterior structure was renovated in 2001, so it still carries out its original function.

A small piece of the history of our land and a Los Timonares icon.

LOS LOSARES ESTATE

Los Losares is the estate with the oldest vineyards (100 years old).
Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrell are the native grapes of Almansa and the monarchs of all they survey here. Growing as bush vines on stony, nutrient-poor soil, these grapes of great intensity and strength are used to make Bodegas Piqueras best wines.

It is our most celebrated vineyard. It stands at 900 metres above sea level, where the soil becomes rockier.

There are blocks of limestone jutting out of the soil, and it’s where the winery’s oldest ungrafted vineyards are planted.

These centuries-old vines survived the phylloxera plague that devastated Spain at the beginning of the 20th century. Their grapes, our superstars, are used to make our signature wines: GEN ONE, Los Losares and Piqueras V.S. Wines made in particular years and always in limited quantities.

EL VÍNCULO ESTATE

El Vínculo is the most recent piece of land purchased by the Piqueras family and is located in the distinct natural surroundings of the Almansa reservoir.

This environment is ideal for organic farming: the landscape is a patchwork of olive trees, almond trees, walnut trees and cereal fields, all surrounded by Mediterranean garrigue or shrubland, growing alongside the vines and giving the wines produced on this estate their special personality.

Standing 800 metres above sea level, the influence of the Mediterranean climate and its loamy, sandy soils, partially covered with slightly chalky limestone, allow the grapes to ripen more quickly, making it perfect for varieties such as Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Merlot.

The grapes from these vineyards produce elegant, structured wines with ripe tannins; very Mediterranean wines, like our Piqueras Gold Label.
