For the second consecutive year, Bodegas Piqueras wines have been awarded medals by Gilbert & Gaillard wine magazine, one of the most prestigious French fine wine publications. In the 2021 edition, our wines have been awarded four “Great Gold” medals and the same number of “Gold”.
El Abuelo Selección, awarded “Great Gold” and 92 points
So, for the second year running Bodegas Piqueras has achieved a splendid haul of awards, following on from the 10 assorted medals won by our wines in 2020, when the high points were the “Great Gold” medals awarded to Piqueras VS, which was rated 92 points, and to Los Losares Garnacha Tintorera, rated at 93 points. In the 2021 issue, the medal-winning wines were El Abuelo Selección, which led the way with the highest rating of 92 points and a Gold medal. Backing up this success, Piqueras Gold Label (91 points), Castillo de Almansa Selección (91 points) and Piqueras Black Label (90 points) won another three other “Great Gold” medals. Alongside them on the podium were Piqueras Wild Fermented, Castillo de Almansa Roble, Valcanto Monastrell and Castillo de Almansa Crianza, with a gold medal each each.
Our new Premium wines go from strength to strength
Juan Pablo Cantos, the winemaker at Bodegas Piqueras, has underlined the importance of again being among the medal-winners at this French competition, emphasizing that “the wines that are receiving the highest awards are those that we have launched in recent years”, along with “higher-end wines from relatively new brands such as Piqueras and Los Losares”. For our entire team of professionals, these awards, as well as recognition for what we are achieving, represent a “reward for all our hard work and a challenge that inspires us to continue the good work at Bodegas Piqueras”.
