Bodegas Piqueras achieves the best result in its history at the annual competition organised by the specialist wine magazine Decanter, with three wines scoring over 90 points. At the 2022 Decanter World Wine Awards, Gen One Tinto 2017 scored 93 points, Piqueras VS 2018 was awarded 91 points and Los Losares Garnacha Tintorera 2019 was rated at 90 points.
Gen One Red Wine deserves particular credit, as this debut appearance saw it achieve a historic score of 93 points, the best rating achieved by the winery and one of the best ever results obtained by our Almansa Designation of Origin at the Decanter World Wine Awards.
On top of that, this is the second year in a row that Piqueras VS has achieved 91 points at Decanter. Piqueras VS also won a silver medal in 2020 and the 2016 vintage achieved a score of 90 points and a bronze medal in 2019. Los Losares Garnacha Tintorera has made a significant step forward with the 2019 vintage earning its first 90-point score at the competition.
These scores indicate that Bodegas Piqueras wines continue, year on year, to progress and achieve ever better scores at Decanter, showcasing the wines at one of the leading international competitions.
The annual awards organised by Decanter magazine are well established as a very influential wine event at global level and at this year’s event more than 18,000 wines from wineries representing over 50 countries were tasted. The expert judges at Decanter, including Masters of Wine and Master Sommeliers, blind-taste these wines from all over the world.
Bodegas Piqueras leads the way for Castilla-La Mancha at Decanter
Juan Pablo Cantos, head winemaker at Bodegas Piqueras, highlights the fact that “these new scores in Decanter have brought unprecedented recognition for Bodegas Piqueras and our top-of-the-range wines such as Gen One Tinto or Piqueras VS.” It also means that “the wines of our winery are again leading the way for the whole southeast of Spain at Decanter, making us the flagship Castilla-La Mancha winery.”
