Bodegas Piqueras has again reaped a rich “harvest” of awards at Mundus Vini. This year, our wines won two gold medals and three silvers, as well as Castillo de Almansa Reserva 2019 being named “best wine of the Almansa Designation of Origin” for the second year in a row.

Castillo de Almansa Reserva once again confirmed its standing as one of the flagship wines of our winery in global terms, repeating its triumph of last year by again being named the best wine of our Almansa Designation of Origin. This achievement, says Juan Pablo Cantos, head winemaker at Bodegas Piqueras, “sets a yardstick that few wineries can match in a competition with the international clout of Mundus Vini.

As well as the gold medal won by Castillo de Almansa Reserva 2019, a further gold was awarded to Piqueras Old Vines 2020 (also for a second year in succession). Our silver medal winners at Mundus Vini were The Old Brick Factory 2020, Castillo de Almansa Crianza 2021 and Valcanto Garnacha Tintorera 2021.

Juan Pablo Cantos takes particular pride in the fact that Castillo de Almansa Reserva 2019 has held on to its Mundus Vini title as the flagship DO Almansa wine: “these awards confirm the status of one of Bodegas Piqueras’ benchmark wines, our sales leading wine in global terms. Castillo de Almansa Reserva, despite being a market leader for decades in so many different countries, will again be one of our leading lights worldwide in 2023.”
Cantos also highlights the timeliness of these awards, just a couple of weeks before our top-notch wine team visits this year’s Prowein as part of Europe’s largest wine fair.
