Bodegas Piqueras has improved all its previous results in The Wine Enthusiast magazine, with several of its wines scoring over 90 points in the new edition of the American publication, one of the most prestigious in the sector worldwide.
The wines recognised by the magazine were Los Losares Garnacha Tintorera 2019, with 93 points, Los Losares Monastrell 2019, with 93 points, Piqueras Wild Fermented 2021, with 92 points and Piqueras Old Vines 2019, with 89 points. It is also the highest rated winery in our Almansa Denomination of Origin by The Wine Enthusiast.
Los Losares, 93 points for both wines
Special mention should be made for our Los Losares range of single vineyard wines, which has achieved 93 points for its two wines. Both Los Losares Garnacha Tintorera and Los Losares Monastrell, in their 2019 vintages, have been recognised by The Wine Enthusiast. In addition, Los Losares Garnacha Tintorera has also received the category of “Hidden Gem”, which the magazine considers wines that are like “hidden gems” that have caused “surprise and delight” to the tasters of the American magazine.
These scores also represent an important highlight for the wines of our Almansa Denomination of Origin. The Wine Enthusiast has managed to award two of the native varieties with which we make the Los Losares range, Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrell, with this score that we had not had until now at Bodegas Piqueras.
Best Buy’ para Piqueras Wild Fermented y Piqueras Old Vines
In addition to the Los Losares range of wines, one of our most emblematic and internationally sold white wines, Piqueras Wild Fermented 2021, has also been recognised by The Wine Enthusiast with 92 points. This white wine made from 100% Verdejo grape variety, also obtains by The Wine Enthusiast the distinction as Best Buy, a distinction awarded to the wine for its value for money. In this case, Piqueras Old Vines 2019, with 89 points, has also achieved this award as Best Buy by the American magazine.
A unique recognition in the United States
Juan Pablo Cantos, winemaker of Bodegas Piqueras, has highlighted the importance of these new recognitions that come from the United States for our winery, together with those already achieved previously in Decanter or by the critic James Suckling: “the American market is the most important worldwide, and therefore it is a source of pride for our whole team that our wines have managed to reach 93 points in The Wine Enthusiast”.
In addition, says Cantos, Los Losares and its 93 points for its two wines show “the quality and present and future projection of our native grapes from Almansa to make wines of the highest quality: Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrell”.
